Welcome
I have been a nurse for almost three decades with the majority of that specializing in pediatrics. My husband and I began raising my nephew when he was six years old with no knowledge of the extent of his issues. If you are raising a child with mental illness or know someone that is, I hope you find hope through our story found in The Silent Screaming: Raising a Child with Psychiatric Disorders & Mental Health Challenges.
I know the isolation and judgement families can feel in these situations. You are not alone and you do not have to be. There are resources you can identify that may be helpful in meeting the goal of helping you and your family live the best life under the circumstances.
Please feel free to learn more by accessing the resources on this website, reading the book, and connecting on social media.
Thank you,
Rhonda Thompson

What they’re saying…
Jessica Knudsen, LCSW, FACHE
“Stories like Joshua’s are so important to share, but rarely get told. Having open dialogue about our children who are struggling with psychiatric disorders lets others know it’s ok to get help.”
Jodie Thompson, Attorney in Wyoming
“This is an important story. It’s not a story about shame, it’s not a dirty little secret to be hidden from the world. It is about resilience and determination and most of all love, and it will speak to those who can relate in the most tragic of ways.”
Sherry Bailey, Teacher
“This book should be a must read for educators in every facet, for it is easy to label a child as “defiant,” “unruly,” “spoiled,” or “coddled” when the mere truth may just be that the child is fighting their way to find themselves in a world that has done them unjustly.”

Rhonda shares with transparency the story of not only Joshua’s sexual abuse and neglect, but her own. How is it possible for such a past to be overcome?
There is hope and help for children who have multiple diagnoses of mental and emotional disabilities.
